What Makes Salem Outstanding
Salem Elementary School is located in northwest Columbus, and serves students in Pre-K through 5th grade as part of the Columbus City School District. The school enrolls approximately 300 students and offers a range of core academic programs including literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education.
Salem emphasizes diversity and inclusive programming. For example, the student population reflects a wide range of racial and ethnic backgrounds, which contributes to a rich school culture. There are over 15 different languages spoken by our students. Salem also features programs such as Gifted & Talented services and English as a Second Language (ESL) support to meet varying student needs. Salem Sharks are Safe, Hardworking, Attentive, Responsible, Kind, and Successful.
Salem Elementary is the home of the Salem Community Garden, run by the Salem Garden Collaborative and maintained by volunteers and students. Students have the opportunity to be part of after-school clubs such as Girls on the Run and the Gardening Club. The Salem Village neighborhood community is deeply invested in the school and several times a year co-manages events at the school such as block parties, harvest celebrations, and a yearly egg hunt.
