Salem Elementary School is a diverse and thriving community school, enrolling grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Located in Northwest Columbus in the Salem Village neighborhood, Salem works closely with community organizations and local businesses. The Salem Garden Collaborative established a community garden on school grounds in 2022, helping to fight food insecurity in the community and students’ lives. The garden grows multiple varieties of fruits and vegetables, many of which coincide with the diets of cultures represented within our student body population. Food grown at the garden is available to anyone in need at the farmers stand located in front of the school. Salem often acts as a community gathering space, hosting multiple events every year, including but not limited to the Back to School Ice Cream Social, Literacy Night, Salem Neighborhood Block Party, Garden Harvest Party, Community Easter Egg Hunt, National Night Out, vaccine clinics, and political and social information sessions. Salem Elementary School and the Salem Village Community have built a great partnership that creates a welcoming atmosphere for all students and families, helping make a more successful and engaging educational and social atmosphere for all.
